Hargrave Martial Arts JKD
Here at Hargrave Martial Arts we teach JKD or as its full name Jeet Kune Do. What we mean by combat is that it was designed for self defense and not for tournaments or sporting events. With this aspect the art takes on a seriousness that the sport karate does not take into account. The moves or techniques are for ending an altercation in the shortest amount of time possible.
The longer a fight goes on the higher the percentage of chance that you will get injured unnecessarily.
Jeet Kune Do or JKD that is taught at Hargrave Martial Arts is the art of Bruce Lee. The system that Lee developed and wrote many books on, is also known as scientific street fighting. The name Jeet Kune do is Chinese and its literal translation is way of the intercepting fist.
Carter Hargrave teaches JKD at his Hargrave Martial Arts private facility in Tulsa. Carter Hargrave tries to stay true the tenants that Lee set forth at his three famous Jeet Kune Do schools. Hargrave is the current president of the largest Jeet Kune Do organization the World Jeet Kune Do Federation. The Federation oversees the film series of Carter Hargrave that teaches the original moves as Lee left in his private school training.
Hargrave Martial Arts uses the Original Jeet Kune Do Training Manual for its curriculum as it has the most effective techniques for real world self defense. The manual written by Carter Hargrave was the culmination of many years of research and hard training.
The original Jeet Kune Do offered at Hargrave Martial Arts JKD is made of modified Wing Chun Kung Fu, American Boxing utilizing the strikes of the legendary Muhammad Ali, and the footwork taken from french fencing that was changed to fit a more mobile and less linear approach and retreat.
Lee wanted to take the best moves from a few of the martial arts that he studied and combat modify them to reduce the moves to the minimum allowing for more economy of motion.
The final goal was a fighting art from the worlds most accomplished martial arts master.
